On the International Women’s Day, I extend my warmest congratulations to all women of Kurdistan, in the country and abroad. I wish them continued progress and success.

On this occasion, we reaffirm our full support for women and girls of Kurdistan, and reassure them that we continue to defend their rights and liberties with all our might.

We mark this day at a time when the statistics and data on violence against women, including murder, harassment, and infringement of their rights are worrisome, negatively impacting the social fabric of the Kurdistan Region, its reputation and position. We underscore that these violations are not acceptable and must stop entirely.

Combating violence against women and preventing murders committed against them are our joint responsibilities at the Kurdistan Region Presidency, the Government and the Parliament, as it is also the responsibility of all the relevant authorities, organizations, religious leaders, media and society as a whole.

Through education and knowledge, all of us as individuals and families must come together and work to eliminate violence against women. We must work together to promote tolerance, equality and the culture of non-violence, to empower women and ensure their active participation in all aspects of life, in politics and in management.

Once again, we salute the International Women’s Day, and wish women success in their fight and struggle for their rights, equality, and justice.

Nechirvan Barzani
The President of the Kurdistan Region
