Erbil, Kurdistan Region, 30 July 2019 – The irresponsible act of an Iraqi officer, in Muthanna Governorate, towards one of the relatives of the victims of the Anfal genocide campaign over Kurdistan’s flag being wrapping around his neck caused many backlashes.
We thank the position the Governor of Muthanna on his position regarding the incident. He expressed his apologies and legal proceeding have been initiated against the officer. And, we thank all who spoke up against this incident.
We reiterate that such acts demonstrate lack of awareness and respect to the Iraq Constitution. A personal act must not provoke tension or illegal responses anywhere. We should preserve the spirit of coexistence and tolerance, and respect the constitutional rights of all components of the society.
