The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani receives the Head of the European Union's Liaison Office in Erbil, Vincent Guillaume Poupeau.
During the meeting, President Barzani presented a brief on the latest developments in the Kurdistan Region, Erbil-Baghdad relations, and talks about the formation of a coalition of Kurdistan blocs in Baghdad.
President Barzani also addressed the ongoing demonstrations in Iraq. He stressed the importance of all sides to avoid violence and adhere to the law. President Barzani expressed the Kurdistan Region’s readiness to continue its full cooperation with Iraq to resolve any ongoing issues and secure peace and stability in the country.
Mr. Poupeau emphasized on the cooperation and coordination between the European Union and the Kurdistan Region in assisting refugees. He expressed his appreciation to the Kurdistan Region for continuing to host and provide facilities and assistance to refugees and IDP'S fleeing violence. In particular, the new wave of refugees fleeing the recent tensions in Syria.
Both sides also discussed recent events taking place in the wider region, and the conditions of the disputed areas and the Nineveh plain.
