In his letter, Mr Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, congratulates Mr Nechirvan Barzani, the President of Kurdistan Region. He wishes him success in his new task and reiterates France’s support for him and for Kurdistan Region.
Mr Macron writes to President Nechirvan Barzani in his letter:
Mr President,
I want to give you my warmest congratulation for your election as the President of Iraqi Kurdistan Region and I wish you entire success in implementing this great responsibility.
Your inauguration is an important stage for Kurdistan Region and entire Iraq which is in the process of stabilization and social reconciliation. I am certain your experience in taking this responsibility and your sense for governance will be helpful in carrying out this new task which France totally supports.
France and Iraqi Kurdistan are historically connected and the joint war against ISIS has strengthened this relationship. I want to express my gratitude to you in particular for all the sacrifices that the Peshmerga have offered and for the ideal efforts the authority in your Region has adopted in welcoming the IDPs fleeing from the barbaric jihadists. You are aware of our commitment with regard to the wish of Kurds within the framework of a unified, federal and democratic Iraq. This special relationship has made France to encourage solving the emergence of the crisis after the independence referendum. We are delighted today with the deepening of relations between Baghdad and Erbil and the agreements that have been made to provide security, stability and development for the whole of Iraq.
At the end of his letter, Mr Macron writes to President Nechirvan Barzani:
I hope we will be able to further develop the relations between France and Kurdistan Region in all fields, especially those that connect people closer: you can depend on the French authorities for the areas of economy, culture and education.
I earnestly ask the President to believe in my sincere compliment.
This letter of President Macron to Nechirvan Barzani has been delivered to his excellency, the President of Kurdistan Region, by Mr Dominic Mass, the consul general of France in Kurdistan Region in a meeting with his excellency on Thursday, 13/06/2019.
