Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani is closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing efforts to contain its spread in the Region.
On Tuesday, the president communicated with the heads of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s relevant institutions to discuss the latest developments in the fight against COVID-19 and containment efforts.
President Barzani held phone conversations with the Minister of Health and the Minister of Interior. As well as the governors of Erbil, Slemani, Dohuk, Halabja, and the heads of the Garmian and Raparin local administrations. The president followed up on the latest developments and discussed the ongoing efforts against the pandemic.
The president was briefed about the current scope of the outbreak in the Region after a lockdown was imposed in all cities and localities of the Kurdistan Region since mid-March. President Barzani also discussed the impacts of the outbreak and the lockdown on life across the Kurdistan Region.
President Nechirvan Barzani expressed gratitude to all staff from the Ministries of Health and Interior, governors, local administrations, all medical teams, Peshmerga, security forces, airports and border gates’ staff, journalists and all those who have been in the forefront of the battle against the COVID-19 outbreak.
The president also thanked the public for abiding by the lockdown instructions and following the protective measures due to the pandemic. The president emphasized that all citizens should continue to protect themselves and their communities by supporting and following the government’s instructions.
President Barzani underlined that ongoing efforts to control the pandemic have been instrumental in containing the outbreak and hoped for the country to overcome this difficult time.
