In a phone call on Saturday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani congratulated the newly elected Yazidi Spiritual Leader, Baba Sheikh, and wished him success in the new position. The President also reiterated his full support to the Yezidi people.
President Nechirvan Barzani underlined that the mission of the Baba Sheikh is spiritual and religious and, therefore, he and his position must not come under any political influences. The President also expressed hope that the new Spiritual Leader becomes a unifying factor for all members of the Yazidi community and that Baba Sheikh effectively plays his role in maintaining tolerance, coexistence and mutual respect among all the communities in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
For his part, Baba Sheikh expressed appreciation and gratitude to the President of the Kurdistan Region for the phone call and his congratulations. Baba Sheikh asked that the Kurdistan Region Presidency and all the relevant bodies in the Region to continue supporting the Yazidi community.
