President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed Mr. Mikhail Bogdanov, Representative of the Russian President and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, along with his accompanying delegation.
During their meeting, discussion centred on the long-standing relationship between Russia, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region; talks between Erbil and Baghdad; Russian investment in the Kurdistan Region; current circumstances in Syria, and recent events in the Middle East.
President Nechirvan Barzani reiterated the Kurdistan Region's commitment to enhancing its relationship with Russia, highlighting the significant presence and contributions of Russian companies, particularly in the energy sector. He also expressed gratitude to Russia for its support during challenging periods faced by the Kurdistan Region.
The two parties acknowledged the significance of upholding peace and stability in Iraq, as well as addressing outstanding issues between Baghdad and Erbil. They also spoke about the outcomes of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections and those initiatives aimed at establishing the new Cabinet.
They both reiterated their commitment to fostering peace and stability in Syria, emphasizing the need to safeguard the rights of the Kurdish people and all communities within the country. They also touched on the ongoing threat posed by ISIS both in Iraq and Syria, underscoring the critical importance of taking measures to prevent its resurgence.
The meeting also covered relationships between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in respect of neighboring countries, as well as various matters of mutual concern.
