President Nechirvan Barzani meets Türkiye’s Deputy Foreign Minister

President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed Türkiye’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Berris Ekinci, and her delegation today, which included Türkiye’s Ambassador to Iraq, the Consul General of Türkiye in the Kurdistan Region, and several representatives of the energy industry.

Talks focused on the relationship between Türkiye and Iraq, particularly with the Kurdistan Region, including collaboration in energy and water management issues. They also spoke about efforts to resume oil exports from the Kurdistan Region.

Both sides were favourable as to the amendments made to the Iraqi budget law, which are expected to facilitate the resumption of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region. They also reviewed preparations for the export of oil as well as the associated positive impacts for both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

President Nechirvan Barzani affirmed that the re-export of oil from the Kurdistan Region would serve the interests of all Iraq and would contribute to national revenues. He reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region's commitment to strengthening cooperative efforts with Türkiye in the energy sector.

In response, Ms. Ekinci conveyed her satisfaction with the agreement reached between Erbil and Baghdad regarding the resumption of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region, expressing Türkiye’s unwavering support for this initiative. She also highlighted her country's readiness to collaborate with Iraq on water management and addressing the challenges posed by climate change.

The meeting also touched on several other matters of mutual interest.
