President Nechirvan Barzani offered Kurdistan Region’s readiness to help restore peace and stability in Iraq. The President also underlined that the legitimate grievances of the protesters should be recognized and taken into consideration.
In a meeting in Erbil with Ms. Jeanine Hennis- Plasschaert, The United Nations Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq, on Monday January 13, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and the UN representative spoke about the recent developments and turmoil in Iraq and the region. The two sides also discussed, among many other issues, the ongoing demonstrations in Iraqi provinces and the danger of the resurgence of terrorism.
The situation in the region and the plans and roadmaps of the United Nations and the international community to support Iraq at this stage, the relations between Erbil and Baghdad and solutions to the outstanding issues through dialogue were also discussed.
