President Nechirvan Barzani met with Belgium’s Ambassador to Iraq and Jordan, Mr. Serge Dickschen.
Their meeting covered Belgium's relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, Erbil-Baghdad relations and discussions to resolve their problems, the importance of repatriating the kidnapped Yezidis who escaped ISIS captivity, and the overall political situation. They also discussed the elections in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
The President expressed the Kurdistan Region's gratitude for Belgium's participation in the international coalition against ISIS and their assistance to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He also reaffirmed the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation in all fields.
Both agreed on the importance of proper implementation of the federal system in Iraq, and of working together to maintain peace and stability in Iraq and the region. Ambassador Dickschen expressed his country’s gratitude for the Kurdistan Region’s role in defeating ISIS and fighting terrorism.
