President Nechirvan Barzani meets with Foreign Minister of India

President Nechirvan Barzani met with Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar today on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany.

Discussions focused on the ways to develop relations and areas of cooperation between Iraq - Kurdistan Region and India. Indian investment opportunities in the Kurdistan Region and welcoming Indian companies into the Region were discussed as well as the latest political and security developments in Iraq and the wider region.

Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam expressed his country’s appreciation to the Kurdistan Region for supporting the Indian labor force and provision of job opportunities. Mr. Subrahmanyam also highlighted India’s plans to advance capacity building in the Kurdistan Region with training programs in health, banking systems and academic support.

President Nechirvan Barzani voiced the Kurdistan Region’s willingness to develop relations with India, and highlighted the capacities of the Indian labor force in Kurdistan which is a committed and professional working community with full support from the Kurdistan Region institutions. The President appreciated and praised the capacity building and development programs and reiterated the Kurdistan Region’s willingness to welcome Indian companies and investments.

Topics of discussion also included the religious and ethnic diversity and the richness of the culture of peaceful coexistence and tolerance in India, the medical trips from the Kurdistan Region to India and other topics of mutual interest.
