President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed Dr. Mohamed Al-Hassan, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq and Head of UNAMI, to engage in discussions regarding the collaboration between the United Nations, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region.
The two parties emphasized the significance of ensuring political stability in Iraq. To achieve this, they highlighted the necessity of enhancing collaboration between Baghdad and Erbil, as well as addressing their differences through dialogue and mutual understanding. They also shared perspectives on the ongoing dialogues among the winning parties following the recent parliamentary elections in Kurdistan and agreed on the urgency of expediting the establishment of the new cabinet for the Kurdistan Regional Government.
The discussion also encompassed the contributions of the United Nations and humanitarian organizations, as well as the circumstances surrounding refugees in the Kurdistan Region. In this context, they emphasized the ongoing support provided by the United Nations to both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region across multiple sectors, highlighting the importance of sustained collaboration and coordination between the two entities.
