President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed Mr. Niccolò Fontana, the Italian Ambassador to Iraq.
The meeting focused on Italy’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, with an emphasis on strengthening cooperation in areas such as the economy, culture, education, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
President Nechirvan Barzani expressed appreciation for Italy’s active role in the international coalition against ISIS, as well as its continued support for the Peshmerga forces and development initiatives. He highlighted the importance of expanding partnership and collaboration with Italy across various sectors.
Ambassador Fontana reaffirmed Italy’s strong commitment to deepening relations with the Kurdistan Region. He praised the region’s stability and progress, and conveyed Italy’s readiness to enhance cooperation with both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
The recent regional developments and ongoing events in the Middle East were also addressed.
