As part of his participation at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum today, President Nechirvan Barzani met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Türkiye.
During their meeting, they discussed the importance of Türkiye’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in all fields and highlighted the Development Road Project. They also stressed the mutual desire to expand joint cooperation in a way that serves the shared interests of both sides.
The two leaders also spoke about the peace process and President Erdogan's recent meeting with the Imrali delegation. President Nechirvan Barzani commended President Erdogan's role in this issue, describing the process as historic. He reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s readiness to support any effort aimed at advancing the peace process.
President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized that the peace process represents a critical opportunity that should be taken seriously by all parties involved, and it must not be overlooked under any circumstances. He stressed that for progress to be made, the PKK needs to respond favorably to Mr. Öcalan’s appeals and demonstrate a complete commitment to the path of peace.
The two sides also discussed recent regional developments, particularly the situation in Syria, the importance of maintaining stability and security, and other issues of mutual interest.
