In two separate meetings held on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany today, President Nechirvan Barzani met with Mr. Thomas Hitschler, Minister of State at the German Ministry of Defense, and Mr. Nils Annen, German Minister of State for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The President expressed the Kurdistan Region's appreciation for the German humanitarian and military assistance and support to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, highlighted the construction of the Peshmerga Hospital built by Germany, and referred to the German troops preparation and training of the Peshmerga forces.
The President stressed that the Kurdistan Region needs continued assistance to eliminate ISIS, and at the same time it needs German support for the further development of its institutions.
German officials expressed delight over the level of the bilateral relations with the Kurdistan Region and reaffirmed willingness to further develop mutual relations and partnership.
Discussions also included the political situation in Iraq, the return of the refugees and the challenges they face, the resurgence and threats of ISIS, the developments in the Kurdistan Region, the issues of migration and immigrants and the developments in the wider region.
