As part of his meetings with political parties and community leaders in the Kurdistan Region, President Nechirvan Barzani visited the headquarters of the Turkmen Reform Bloc, the Council of the Chaldean-Syriac People, and the National Union Coalition, which consists of a group of political parties and cultural organizations.
At the meeting, attended by Vice President Mustafa Sayd Qadir, the latest developments in the Kurdistan Region and the role and contributions of the communities to the Kurdistan Region and its political process were highlighted.
Discussions also covered the drafting of the constitution, the rights and special status of the religious and ethnic communities in the Kurdistan Region and their plights especially in the disputed territories, including in Nineveh Plains.
The political and community leaders shared their observations and views on the current states of affairs in the country and appreciated President Nechirvan Barzani’s support for their rights. They expressed strong support for the President’s efforts to bring the political parties and communities in the Kurdistan Region together and reaffirmed the need for an inclusive constitution which is based on citizen rights and which preserves their religious and ethnic liberties.
For his part, President Nechirvan Barzani reiterated that the Turkmen and the Christians are the ancient components of Kurdistan and have greatly contributed to the liberation movements and the reconstruction of the country. The President pledged to continue working for an inclusive society in the Kurdistan Region which respects, safeguards and promotes all communities’ national and religious rights protected and promoted by the future constitution. The President also stated that pluralism, coexistence, tolerance and mutual respect among all sides are the cornerstones of Kurdistan's society.
