President Nechirvan Barzani held a meeting with Mohamed Al Hassan, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and Head of the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).

During the discussion, they addressed the political landscape in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, focusing on relations between Erbil and Baghdad and the ongoing dialogue aimed at resolving various issues, including drone attacks affecting the Kurdistan Region. They also reviewed the role and agenda of the UN in Iraq.

President Nechirvan Barzani acknowledged the significant presence and contributions of the United Nations in Iraq, emphasizing the critical need to resolve issues between Erbil and Baghdad through constructive dialogue. He highlighted the importance of ensuring the timely remittance of salaries and financial entitlements to the Kurdistan Region. Additionally, he underscored that preventing drone attacks on the Kurdistan Region is essential to achieving peace and stability in the country.

In response, Mr. Al Hassan expressed concern over the drone attacks and underscored the need to prevent such incidents. He reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to supporting the resolution of issues between Erbil and Baghdad, facilitating the transfer of financial entitlements to the Kurdistan Region, and fostering peace and stability in the country.
