President Nechirvan Barzani engaged in a meeting with His Holiness Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, during the Munich Security Conference today.
They engaged in a dialogue regarding the circumstances of Christians in Iraq and Syria, addressing the difficulties they currently encounter. They also explored ways to enhance initiatives aimed at fostering peace and coexistence among various religious and ethnic groups in the region.
President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized the significance of fostering peaceful coexistence and protecting the rights of Christians and all communities. He highlighted the Kurdistan Region's dedication to promoting religious and cultural diversity while enhancing an atmosphere of tolerance and mutual respect.
His Holiness Mor Ignatius Aphrem II expressed his gratitude to the Kurdistan Region for its efforts in safeguarding and assisting Christian refugees. He commended the Kurdistan Region for exemplifying peaceful coexistence within the region.
The meeting also addressed the situation in Syria, the ongoing challenges in the region, and other matters of mutual concern.
