Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, in Erbil on Wednesday.
Erbil-Baghdad relations and current talks aimed at resolving the pending issues between the two sides were discussed at the meeting. Ms. Plasschaert reiterated the United Nations’ support for the continuation of the talks between the federal government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and stated: “We encourage both sides to continue the talks and make efforts to resolve the differences”.
President Nechirvan Barzani expressed that the Kurdistan Region is willing to support any solution in accordance with the constitution of Iraq.
The two sides also discussed the latest developments regarding the COVID-19 pandemic in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and shed light on the wide-ranging implications of the outbreak and the ongoing measures to counter it.
