President Nechirvan Barzani received today in Erbil Japan’s Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Suzuki Kotaro and his accompanying delegation.
At the meeting, the latest political developments in Iraq and Japan’s bilateral relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region were highlighted.
Ambassador Kotaro reiterated that Japan will continue to support Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, praised the progresses made in Kurdistan and commended President Nechirvan Barzani’s role in bringing the political parties of the Kurdistan Region together.
For his part, the President thanked Japan for their contributions in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, and referred to the work and efforts of Japan’s International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The President expressed hope that the bilateral relations between the two sides will develop further and encouraged Japan’s continued work and efforts in the country.
Discussions also covered the political situation in Iraq, the ways to benefit from existing opportunities, the peace and stability of the wider region, the threat of terrorism, the issue of reconstruction, encouragement of the private sector and the areas in which Japan can contribute.
