Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Iraq, Mr. Michel Rentenaar, accompanied by the Netherlands’ General Consul in Erbil, Mr. Hans Akerboom.
Discussions focused on the bilateral relations of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with the Netherlands, foreign investment opportunities in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, the role of the Netherlands within the International Coalition against ISIS, Erbil-Baghdad talks and the share of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq’s 2021 budget.
The President expressed the Kurdistan Region’s gratitude to the Netherlands for their support against ISIS within the Coalition.
Discussions also focused on developing an environment favorable to foreign investment that is rooted in law, rights and international banking standards.
Other important topics discussed included the status of the freedom of expression and media in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the upcoming Iraq elections and the importance of the international election observation, the reform process in the country, preserving peace and security and efforts to boost the Iraqi economy.
