Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, President of the Arab League in Baghdad on Saturday.
During the meeting, the situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region were discussed, and the two sides agreed that solving the problems of Erbil-Baghdad provides security and stability to Iraq, and strengthens its regional position and international role. The two sides stressed that cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad and all the parties and components is important to overcome the current difficulties and challenges.
Mr. Aboul Gheit pointed out that Iraq is rich in human and natural resources, and affirmed the Arab League’s full support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in solving their problems, overcoming difficulties, and confronting terrorism. Mr. Aboul Gheit invited the President of the Kurdistan Region to visit the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo.
President Nechirvan Barzani stressed that he visited Baghdad to discuss the situation in Iraq, collective cooperation and coordination to face the challenges, and to solve the disagreements. The President stated, 'we have the will to find solutions, on the basis of the constitution, all problems need to be solved in order to achieve stability in Iraq.’
The situation in the wider region and other issues of mutual interest were discussed.
