President Nechirvan Barzani receives German foreign minister’s representative

President Nechirvan Barzani reiterated the position of the Kurdistan Region and its efforts to de-escalate the tensions and restoring peace and stability. The president said that, “we do not wish Iraq to become a battleground for settling disputes and rivalries among regional and global powers.” The president also expressed gratitude to Germany’s humanitarian and military support for the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

On Wednesday, January 15, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Dr. Philipp Ackermann, the special representative of the German foreign minister and his accompanying delegation.

The meeting centered around the latest developments in Iraq and their impact, the threat and danger of resurgence of terrorism, the Baghdad-Erbil relations and the continuous dialogue to resolve the pending issues between KRG and the Federal Government. The two sides also spoke about, among other topics, Iraq and Kurdistan Region’s relations with Germany and the role of the international coalition in confronting terror.
