Erbil, Kurdistan Region, May 1, 2020
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani issued a message on International Labor Day in which he pays tribute to workers in Kurdistan and around the world. Below is the full text of the message:
On the occasion of International Labor Day, I congratulate all workers in Kurdistan, their organizations and labor unions. I also extend my best wishes to all workers in Iraq and around the world.
Workers in Kurdistan are active participants who continue to have a pivotal role in rebuilding the country. They have earned and deserve our profound appreciation and respect. On this day, we reiterate our full support for laborers’ legitimate rights and demands for better standards of living and working conditions. We also convey our support for the wellbeing and welfare of all the workers and people of Kurdistan.
We hope that our country and the world overcome the current crises and the problems that followed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, the negative impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on people’s lives, especially on workers, has been immense. Hopefully, we will celebrate this day in much better conditions next year.
I wish everyone a happy International Labor Day.
