On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to protecting women’s rights and building a society where freedom, equality, and human dignity prevail. We remain dedicated to confronting all forms of violence and discrimination against women.

With respect, we commemorate all women who have lost their lives to violence, and we extend our deepest sympathies to their families. Comfort for their families can only be achieved through delivering justice, preventing the recurrence of such crimes, and creating a peaceful environment that protects every woman, regardless of position or circumstance.

Protecting women’s rights is a fundamental pillar for building a free, just, advanced, and peaceful society for all. Ending violence against women requires collective will, strong and enforceable laws, and social awareness that respects women and supports their broad participation in political, administrative, and economic life.

The future of Kurdistan depends on empowering women and strengthening their effective participation in all fields of life. With full resolve and determination, we remain committed to confronting violence and extremism, protecting rights and freedoms, and building a society in which every woman is safe, free, and capable of achieving her dreams and goals.

Together with all official institutions, government bodies in the Kurdistan Region, civil society, and religious and community leaders, we will continue working to strengthen legal protection, expand economic empowerment programs, and enhance women’s participation in decision-making positions. We will also work towards creating a work and social environment free from harassment, violence, and discrimination.

We salute all women who fight for their rights, as well as activists and those working in the field of women’s protection, and all who contribute to raising societal awareness and promoting the values of equality. We also value the role of youth, the media, schools, and universities in spreading a culture of non-violence and mutual respect.

Let us all continue working together for a society free of violence, fear, and discrimination.

Nechirvan Barzani
President of the Kurdistan Region
