President of the Kurdistan Region meets with the U.S. Ambassador

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, 17 July 2019 - President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani met with the United States Ambassador to Iraq Matthew Tueller and his accompanying delegation.

Ambassador Tueller congratulated the President on the formation of the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and conveyed his best wishes to the government. While expressing his concern to today’s criminal attack in a restaurant in Erbil, he restated his support for the peace and security of the Kurdistan Region.

Also, in the meeting, the relations between Erbil and Baghdad, resolving issues constitutionally, improving ties between the Kurdistan Region and the United States, continued cooperation among the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the Coalition for fighting terrorists in the areas risky of resurfacing of terrorists and encouraging companies to participate in rebuilding devastated areas were all discussed.

On his side, the President expressed his appreciation for the support given by the United States to the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. And, he expressed Kurdistan’s desire and willingness to resolve the issues with the Government of Iraq in accordance with the Iraq Constitution.

Discussing the situation of the area in general, and KRG’s plan for reform’s process and reorganizing the Ministry of Peshmerga, were among other discussed topics.
