President Nechirvan Barzani expressed gratitude to France’s assistance in the Shingal region and reiterated that Kurdistan Region will cooperate with any candidate for the post of the Iraqi prime minister who is backed by consensus, which will result in stability, security and a successful political process for the entire Iraq.
On Wednesday February 5, Kurdistan Region President, Nechirvan Barzani met with Mr. Bruno Aubert, France’s Ambassador to Iraq and his accompanying delegation.
President Nechirvan Barzani underlined that the efforts aimed at holding talks between Erbil and Baghdad and resolving outstanding issues between them will continue. The president also reiterated the importance of cooperation and coordination between the international community and the Iraqi government and the coalition partners in countering the danger of ISIS resurgence and establishing the mechanisms for the coalition forces to remain in Iraq.
The president and the ambassador also spoke about how to expand ties between Kurdistan Region and France, the French delegation’s visit to the Shingal region and coordination and relations between Erbil and Baghdad to ensure further stability in the region. The two sides also discussed the current conditions in Baghdad and the designation of Mr. Muhammad Tofiq Allawi for the post of prime minister and the economic and security situation and the threats of ISIS.
