Nechirvan Barzani has been inaugurated as President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq during a parliamentary session in Erbil on Monday.
President Barzani, who had been serving as the regional prime minister, was elected as president by the Kurdistan Region Parliament on May 28, and took the oath of office in a ceremony attended by regional, national and international dignitaries.
During his inaugural address, the President explained how Kurdistan has proved to be a “visible and an effective part of the Region and international community” and has played a “remarkable role in protecting the stability of the economy and politics of the region.”
He added, “future requires the Kurdistan Region to further coordinate and improve its relations with Iraq, countries of the region and our friends in the world. The current and next generation deserve a better future."
“Improvements in sectors of education and science, technological and engineering advancement along with attaching more importance to sociology, medicine, psychology and human development will lead our society towards a better future," he added.
