Nechirvan Barzani Meets with Delegation from the United Nations

Erbil – In a meeting on June 19, 2019, the President of Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani received Mr. Karim Asad Ahmad Khan Special Adviser and Head of the International Investigative Team on crimes committed by the Islamic State organization in Iraq, and his accompanying delegation. Mr. Ahmad Khan has highlighted the role and sacrifices offered by the Kurdistan Region in the fight against terrorism and in protecting and embracing of various components of society.

Mr. Ahmad Khan presented a brief about his work in collecting the evidences according to international standards for the crimes committed by Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL), the types of the crimes and related laws about such crimes. In addition, he provided an update regarding his visits to mass graves and their process of unearthing. He also underlined the cooperation of Iraqi Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government in finding the criminals and making sure they go under trial.

The President of Kurdistan Region commended the delegation on their work, and emphasized on Kurdistan Region’s support for the delegation and continued collaboration with the Iraqi Government to bring responsible criminals to justice. In addition, he presented a brief on Kurdistan’s sacrifices in the fight against ISIL, and underlined that Kurdistan will uphold and deepen the principles and values of coexistence and protecting the different components of the society.
