President Nechirvan Barzani emphasised his role will be a unifying figure for all political, ethnic and religious groups in the Region and called on those who “degrade the positions of one another” to put “our thinking, behaviour and actions together… to seek a common future.”

In his maiden speech as newly-elected President, His Excellency assured Kurdistanis his only “demand and request” was for his tenure to be marked by peaceful co-existence and stability “without any national, religious or territorial discrimination.”

He said: “I don’t think there is not anyone who doesn’t wish for unity, agreement and consensus and put aside our differences of views.

“I know the challenges and differences remain, this is something normal, but I ask for our thinking to be not in disagreement, disunity and non-consensus. Let’s put our thinking, behaviour and actions together constructively in order to seek a common solution and a common future.

“My demand and request as the president of Kurdistan Region for the next few years is working together to achieve hopes greater than ours and each political parties.”

In order for this to be achieved, he warned Kurdistanis must “work seriously” to guarantee “human rights, freedoms and global principles of the developed World” to make Kurdistan “the country for all."

“We all have one sun that rises above us. We all have one future and one destiny.”
