Continuing his meetings in Munich, Germany, on the sidelines of Munich Security Conference, President Nechirvan Barzani met with the UK Foreign Secretary, Mr. James Cleverley.
The meeting covered a number of issues including the relations of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with the UK, the political and economic situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the ongoing efforts to resolve the Erbil-Baghdad differences, the issue of energy, and the oil and gas law in Iraq.
The Foreign Secretary of the UK reaffirmed his country’s support to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and their efforts to resolve their differences. Mr. Cleverly affirmed that the United Kingdom values its bilateral relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region as a partner, and that the stability of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region is of importance to regional stability.
For his part, President Nechirvan Barzani expressed the Kurdistan Region’s gratitude for the continued support and cooperation of the United Kingdom, and emphasized the readiness of the Kurdistan Region to expand bilateral relations with the UK. The President also reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Region will remain a factor of peace and stability.
Other issues of common concern including the current international challenges were discussed.
