President Nechirvan Barzani receives Ambassadors of France and Germany

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Ambassador of France to Iraq, Mr. Bruno Aubert, and the Ambassador of Germany to Iraq, Mr. Ole Diehl.

Discussions focused on the Kurdistan Region’s bilateral relations with Germany and France, the political and security situation in Iraq, Baghdad-Erbil talks and the Kurdistan Region’s share of Iraq 2021 budget.

The status of the disputed territories, terror threats and ISIS movements, the mission of the NATO in Iraq, containment of coronavirus pandemic, the upcoming Iraq elections and the role and support of the United Nations in this regard were also highlighted.

The role and impact of the European Union and the international community in supporting Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to reach lasting agreements on pending issues were affirmed.

President Nechirvan Barzani expressed gratitude to France and Germany for their support and reiterated the importance of international community’s continuing support of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The President reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s readiness to cooperate and coordinate with the Federal Government in Iraq to resolve all disputes with Baghdad in accordance with the country’s constitution.

The Consul Generals of France and Germany and a number of Kurdistan Region officials and diplomats also attended the meeting.
