Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received the new Consul General of the United States of America in Erbil, Mr. Robert Waller, on Thursday.
At their meeting, which was also attended by the outgoing U.S Consul General, Steven Fagin, and an accompanying delegation, the President congratulated the new Consul General on his new mission, wished him success in his duties and reiterated support for his new assignment.
On his part, Mr. Waller reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to the stability of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and expressed support for the role of the Region and all other communities in governing Iraq. The Consul General also reiterated the United States support for the resolution of the pending issues and overcoming the crises in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
President Nechirvan Barzani thanked and commended the outgoing U.S. Consul General Mr. Steven Fagin for his contributions in the Kurdistan Region and his role in strengthening the ties between the Kurdistan Region and the United States. The President congratulated Mr. Fagin on his new mission as the U.S. Deputy Head of Mission in Baghdad. Mr. Fagin expressed gratitude and reiterated that he will continue to work for and support cooperation and partnership with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
President Nechirvan Barzani highlighted the position of the Kurdistan Region and the importance of joint cooperation with the government of Iraq in order to achieve stability and resolve the pending issues in accordance to the constitution.
Both sides also agreed to further strengthen USA-Kurdistan Region relations and cooperation and to continue working with the international coalition against ISIS. The importance of continued U.S. support to the Kurdistan Region, the role of the Region in the stability of Iraq, the latest developments in the Kurdistan Region and the Kurdistan Region Presidency’s efforts to resolve internal issues in the Region, safeguarding the peaceful coexistence and tolerance among communities were also discussed.
