Duhok, Kurdistan Region, September 15, 2024
As part of his ongoing journey through Duhok Governorate, President Nechirvan Barzani visited Zakho Corniche Project today.
The President subsequently provided an update to the reporters:
"Today, I had the opportunity to visit the Zakho Autonomous Administration, where I engaged in discussions with Chairman Gohdar Shekho. My intention was to observe various locations where projects have been completed, including one directly behind us. I must express my heartfelt congratulations for the remarkable achievements I witnessed; this project is just one of many that have been successfully completed. Over the past three years, significant progress has been made, resulting in commendable services and improvements for both Zakho city and the surrounding region."
"I would like to express my hope that the number of such examples continues to grow, as our nation truly deserves enhanced services. The dedication and hard work of our people warrant these improvements. I extend my gratitude to Mr. Gohdar, the Chairman of the Zakho Autonomous Administration, and his entire team. While I may not mention everyone by name, I sincerely appreciate all the staff members who contributed to the successful completion of these projects."
In addressing the challenges between Erbil and Baghdad, as well as the approach for the upcoming Kurdistan Parliament elections, the President remarked: "There remains ample time before the campaign begins. I have previously stated, and reiterate now, that the campaign should be conducted in a manner that fosters unity rather than division. We are all navigating the same course. While elections are a standard process and will indeed take place, it is crucial that we avoid actions that harm one another or seek to erase each other's contributions. It is my belief that we must steer clear of such confrontations. The election campaign should be carried out in a way that preserves the social stability of the Kurdistan Region. Furthermore, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is actively collaborating with Baghdad to address these issues, adhering to a clear policy aimed at resolving all matters within the framework of the Iraqi constitution."
In addressing an inquiry regarding his voice in a recent viral video from 1996, in which the President is reciting Mawlood verses, President Nechirvan cheerfully remarked:
“There are differing opinions regarding my voice; some individuals appreciate it while others do not. I must admit that I have not previously viewed this video. Like many of you, I have encountered it on social media. This was 28 years ago. To those who compliment my voice, I express my gratitude, and to those who criticize it, I sincerely ask for your understanding.”
Regarding his visit to Duhok Province and the Zakho Autonomous Administration, President Nechirvan Barzani remarked: "Our primary purpose was to assess the current situation. I extend my congratulations for the commendable efforts in Duhok, and I am particularly pleased to be in Zakho today. I appreciate the initiatives and services implemented here. My message is one of congratulations, best wishes, and a hope for continued success."
Concerning the re-exportation of oil from the Kurdistan Region, the President stated: "It has not yet been permitted. The Kurdistan Regional Government is prepared, and there are no issues on their part. The matter needs to be addressed in Baghdad; otherwise, as the government, we are prepared."
Concerning the salaries, he stated: "Following the arrival of the delegation from Baghdad, it is evident that the salaries will be disbursed. We sincerely apologize for any occasional delays, whether minor or significant, but I am confident that there will not be any issues regarding salary payments."
