Erbil, Kurdistan Region, 2 July 2019 - The President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani met with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert in Erbil.
In the meeting, Ms. Hennis-Plasschaert praised the outcomes of latest meeting between President Barzani and the members of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in Baghdad, and she commended Kurdistan Region’s stance and viewpoints in the meeting.
Also, it was reiterated that the United Nations can play an important role in helping Iraq, and especially in Erbil-Baghdad talks aiming at resolving outstanding issues, including Article 140 of the Iraqi constitution.On his meeting with the UNSC, President Barzani stated that he hopes that such meetings would continue so that all sides will be informed about the issues in Iraq and particularly the issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.
His Excellency reiterated the Kurdistan Region’s willingness to engage in dialogue that will lead to solving all issues accordingly.The latest developments in the Kurdistan Region, including the ongoing talks to form the Kurdistan Regional Government’s new cabinet were discussed in the meeting.
