Erbil, Kurdistan Region, March 31, 2021
I offer my sincere congratulations to the Assyrians, Syriacs and Chaldeans in Kurdistan, Iraq and around the world who celebrate Akitu, the Babylonian-Assyrian New Year.
I hope this celebration will bring prosperity, hope and stability to the people of Kurdistan and around the world who are currently facing hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As always, the Kurdistan Region will remain the cradle of tolerance, coexistence and peace. Our fellow Christian citizens are an ancient community of our country and an important part of this culture of tolerance and coexistence. It is imperative to safeguard and strengthen their communities.
I wish all Christians a Happy Akitu and hope that future celebrations will be held in better circumstances and in peace and prosperity.
May God protect Kurdistan and its people and the people of the entire world.
